A 28-year-old businessman was found murdered in Ranhola on Sunday morning. The police are still clueless about the identity of the killers and the motive behind the crime.
The body of Shameen Kaifi was found beneath a tree by a passerby around 6 a.m. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
“There were strangulation marks on the victim’s neck and he was bleeding from his nose. Other injuries seemed to suggest he had fallen from some height,” said a senior police officer.
Shameen’s mobile phone was missing from his pocket and his empty wallet was found some distance away from the body.
Shameen helped his father in their timber business. Nothing unusual was observed in his routine on Saturday as he accompanied his father to their shop and returned home drunk, like he usually did every night, said the officer.
“He went out for a walk after dinner. He did not return home, but his father did not suspect anything unusual,” said the officer. The police also suspect a personal enmity and are analysing his mobile phone call records.
The victim’s family, meanwhile, has suspected the role of the victim’s wife and her relatives. Married for the last five years, his wife had been staying away from him and had filed a case of cruelty against him a few months ago.
The police have learnt that the two families had been involved in a scuffle during a hearing some weeks ago. They, however, have not found any evidence against his wife’s family so far.
