BJP wants FIR against Alka Lamba

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha Vijender Gupta on Tuesday demanded that the Delhi Police immediately file an FIR against local MLA Alka Lamba on charges of obstructing Delhi Fire Service (DFS) and Delhi Police personnel in discharging their duties while confronting a fire that broke out in Chandni Chowk here on Monday.

‘Cheap publicity’

Arguing that it was a serious offence under Section 126 of the IPC, Mr. Gupta alleged that Ms. Lamba disrupted the “sensitive operation” by climbing on a DFS crane and remaining there for about an hour in pursuance of a “photo-shoot opportunity” and to gain “cheap publicity”.

“She was subsequently brought down after which she continued to stay on the rooftop of a fire tender much to the anger and anguish of fire-affected shopkeepers and public. A number of fire brigade and police personnel continued to be occupied with her safety and security. In fact her presence delayed the operations,” the senior BJP legislator alleged.

The Rohini legislator also demanded that the Arvind Kejriwal-led government immediately strengthen the DFS by filling up as many as 1,185 vacant posts.
