The Delhi unit of the BJP on Monday condemned the attack on the residence of its president Manoj Tiwari and demanded a “thorough probe” by the Delhi Police into what the party termed was a “planned” act.

The police, on their part, have arrested two men who along with their accomplices had allegedly barged into Mr. Tiwari's residence at North Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Two of the BJP president's staff members were seriously injured in the incident that allegedly followed a road accident nearby.

Delhi BJP general secretaries Kuldeep Chahal, Rajesh Bhatia and Ravinder Gupta said the police should conduct a “thorough probe” in the matter and refrain from passing it off as a reaction to a dispute between Mr. Tiwari’s driver and another person over a trivial incident of vehicle collision, the party said in a statement.

‘Accident intentional’

“There is a big possibility that the initial car collision incident was an intentionally created alibi of the criminals involved in the attack on Tiwari’s residence,” the three Delhi BJP secretaries said in a joint statement.

The CCTV footage from cameras installed at Mr. Tiwari’s residence showed a group of men roaming inside carrying sticks and rods after his official car collided with another car near his official residence in Lutyens' Delhi. “The time of attack, injuries inflicted on 2 staffers of Mr. Tiwari apart from threats referring to Mr. Tiwari by the attackers shows it was planned,” the statement said.

“It is a big threat. Hardly 100 metres from the police station, the attackers entered the residence of an MP and beat up his staff. The police should not spare anyone involved,” said Mr. Tiwari.
