Congress candidate for East Delhi constituency Arvinder Singh on Wednesday released a constituency-specific manifesto outlining the work he intends to do to transform the area if voted to power.
The Delhi Congress has not released a State-specific manifesto and Mr. Singh is the only Congress candidate to release one so far.
Mr. Singh attacked his two main contenders Gautam Gambhir from the BJP and Atishi from AAP by calling them “political tourists”.
He said that Mr. Gambhir was not spending time with the people of his constituency even during the campaign season and said that the cricketer-turned-politician would disappear from the constituency completely after the election.
Mr. Singh said that with his nomination, it was after a long time that a candidate had been chosen to fight the election from East Delhi, who was a local.
In his constituency manifesto, Mr. Singh said he would set up a dedicated toll-free number that people could use to call and register complaints about issues that they face. He also promised that the people of the constituency would decide how his MPLAD funds would be used.
Mr. Singh said that while he was starting his campaign at 6 a.m. and working till late night, his political rivals were fighting the election on Twitter instead of mingling with the people.
Mr. Singh’s manifesto also talked about women’s safety, pollution, clean drinking water, public transport, housing and jobs.
