Arjuna Awardees extend support

August 22, 2011 10:52 am | Updated 10:52 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Alleging corruption in sports organisations, a group of Arjuna Awardees on Sunday extended support to Anna Hazare's movement for a strong Lokpal Bill.

Asian marathon gold medallist Sunita Godara, an India Against Corruption forum member, and other sports personalities from the field of athletics, basketball, boxing, table tennis, volley ball, wrestling, shooting and hockey met Team Anna and voiced their concern over the issue.

“We have come from Delhi, Haryana, U.P. and Rajasthan on a very short notice. We will now contact our fellow sports persons across the country and spread the message about Anna's efforts. We hope that most of them would join the movement. It is necessary for us to come together and strengthen Anna in his crusade against corruption, to rid the system of this malaise,” said one of them.

The Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement also joined the movement. “We are mobilising all members of our organisation living in different parts of the country. We will provide all possible support to help Anna in his mission,” said Group Captain Vinod Gandhi.

Saksham, a non-government organisation assisting the differently-abled, also joined the cause on Sunday. Besides,

“The Chandni Chowk Vyaapari Association extended its full support,” said an IAC representative.
