AAP govt has failed to open Aam Aadmi Canteens: BJP

The Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, on Saturday claimed to have exposed what he termed was the Arvind Kejriwal-led government’s “false promise” of opening Aam Aadmi Canteens, which were aimed at providing subsidised food to the poor.

During the Assembly session on March 7, the BJP MLA from Rohini had accused the AAP government, which had made a provision of ₹60 crore for the canteens, of failing to run “even a single Aam Aadmi Canteen”.

‘Govt only on paper’

On Saturday, Mr. Gupta said: “Deputy Secretary (Legislation), Legislative Assembly Secretariat, vide his letter dated March 20, 2017, had asked the Department of Health and Family Welfare to run the canteens in accordance with the decision taken by the Delhi Cabinet, but the department had refused to accept this order.”

“Refusal of the department to accept the Cabinet decision shows that this government now exists only on paper,” Mr. Gupta said.

“It is clear from all the documents that it has neither made any preparation nor taken any logical action in this regard,” the BJP leader said.

He added that the AAP government had “for political reasons closed the Jan Aahar Canteen Scheme, which was started by the previous government, without implementing any alternative plan to provide cheap food to the poor”.
