Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday inaugurated an underpass at Shanti Path and two electric sub-stations at Raja Bazar and Dr. Bhishamber Dass Marg.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Dikshit said the underpass at Shanti Path was a long-awaited initiative and a pertinent demand of pedestrians using the crowded road.
“The underpass will enable free and safe movement of vehicles as well as pedestrians from Safdarjung railway station to North Moti Bagh and vice-versa. Further, commuters coming from Ring Road/Rao Tula Ram Marg can use this underpass to reach directly to Safdarjung railway station without taking a long detour and u-turn on Shanti Path.”
The underpass has been constructed at a cost of Rs.12.33 crore within a year. The features of vehicular underpass at Shanti Path are asymmetric tunnel with vehicular carriageway and pedestrian path separated by railing. “The underpass has been constructed using the box-push technique instead of normal cut-and-cover method thus avoiding closure of traffic lanes of Shanti Path and without affecting movement of vehicles of Shanti Path during construction,” said Ms. Dikshit.
She gave instructions for installation of proper signages at all appropriate places near the underpass.
Meanwhile, the New Delhi Municipal Council has commissioned two new electric sub-stations of 33 kV and 66 kV at Raja Bazar and Dr. Bishambar Dass Marg respectively as a part of “Electric System Strengthening and Upgradation Work”.
Both sub-stations have been completed in 18 months. The cost of Raja Bazar sub-station is Rs.10.11 crore and Rs.16.75 crore for Dr. Bishamber Dass Marg electric sub-station. A dedicated rainwater harvesting system within the compound has been installed in both sub-stations.
The electric sub-stations will ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the adjoining area of Pandit Pant Marg, Dr. Bishamber Dass Marg, Mahadev Road, Gole Dak Khana, Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Gole Market.
