The police have booked a truck driver and conductor for suspected possession and sale of beef and camel meat after animal rights activists intercepted their truck coming from Haryana in north Delhi's Lawrence Road on Monday.
The police said an FIR has been registered after volunteers of Dhyan Foundation, which campaigns against the transportation and consumption of banned meat, submitted a complaint. The police have seized the truck, detained the driver and conductor, and sealed the cold storage where they were going to deliver the meat
“We received information about this truck late at night. Immediately our volunteers contacted the police and rushed to the spot at Lawrence Road,” said Sudershan Kaushik, a volunteer of Dhyan Foundation.
The volunteers protested outside the Keshavpuram police station on Tuesday alleging that there was a delay in the filing of the FIR. DCP (North-West) Milind Mahadeo Dumbre said, “The meat sample has been taken for testing and we are awaiting the report before pressing charges against anyone.”
