: A court here has sentenced a school van driver to one-month rigorous imprisonment for making indecent gestures at a woman in south-east Delhi in 2012.
The convict, Yogender, had showed his private parts to the woman while she was walking to a bus stand in Ashram Chowk.
Explicit gestures
“He [Yogender] made sexually explicit gestures as he opened his pants to expose himself,” said the woman, who was 21-year-old at the time of the incident.
The woman had returned home and narrated the incident to her father. Later, she had lodged a complaint with the Sulight Colony police station, she further told the court. She also identified the convict in the court.
“The intention behind these acts is to insult the modesty of a woman or to intrude upon her privacy,” said Metropolitan Magistrate Ashok Kumar.
Plea for lenient punishment
The Judge also dismissed the plea for a lenient punishment. Yogender’s counsel had argued that he was a driver by profession and had to take care of his four children and widowed mother.
“The convict does not deserve too much leniency since the offence pertains to indecency against a woman,” the Judge said.
