The death toll due to dengue in the city has gone up to 15. A 41-year-old woman from south Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar and a seven-year-old boy succumbed to the disease on Wednesday. The official figure, however, remains five.

Also, according to unconfirmed reports, a 15-month-old girl died due to complications arising out of dengue at Safdarjung Hospital here on Wednesday. Earlier this week, a 14-year-old boy had died at Agrasen hospital.

The deceased, Monika Bahl, died of dengue shock syndrome leading to multi-organ failure.

Doctors say she was brought to the hospital with fever. Dr. Srikant Sharma at Moolchand Hospital said: “The patient was shifted to the ICU three days after admission when she developed respiratory problems. She tested positive for the dengue antibody test, which means she had contracted the disease earlier and this time again.”

Data released by the three civic corporations — North, South and East Delhi Municipal Corporations — on Monday said that till September 12, the number of dengue deaths in the city was five, and the number of cases was 1,872.

The New Delhi Municipal Council, meanwhile, has approached embassies and foreign missions to allow its staff to check for mosquito breeding on their premises. The Council had raised the issue with the Union Health Ministry after mosquito-breeding conditions were detected in five embassies last month.

The council, on Wednesday, issued fresh challans to the National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd., after mosquito breeding was detected at its construction sites in East Kidwai Nagar.
