The Delhi Commission for Women termed Friday as a ‘dark day’ after the High Court refused to put a stay on the release of the juvenile convict in the December 16 gang-rape case. DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said she would appeal to the Chief Justice of India, Delhi High Court and wrote to the President against the release.
“Extremely sad that Nirbhaya’s convict will walk free on 20th. Dark day in history of the county. . Nirbhaya rapist should not be released,” she tweeted. Ms. Maliwal also sought Pranab Mukherjee’s intervention for the quick passage of the Juvenile Justice Amendment Bill.
