A nine-year-old girl was raped allegedly by a 67-year-old teacher inside a madrasa in Narela area in New Delhi on February 25, following which the accused was arrested on Tuesday.
The girl is currently undergoing treatment at BR Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini. A doctor said that although the girl was traumatised, her condition was stable.
Police said that the madrasa teacher, identified as Zakhir Alam, was arrested late on Tuesday night after the girl’s parents made a call to the police control room (PCR) at 9.55 p.m. and informed about the incident.
The incident is reported to have happened on February 25 inside the madrasa located in Narela area’s JJ colony. The girl’s family live in a nearby block. The accused had threatened the girl of dire consequences if she disclosed anything to her parents. But as her medical condition got deteriorated after the incident, the girl fainted at her home on February 26. When she was taken to the hospital, the doctor informed them of a possible sexual assault. The girl then told her mother about her ordeal and a complaint was lodged with the Narela Police Station.
The accused is an Arabic language teacher who is teaching at the madrasa for the past several years, the police added.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 and sexual assault, the police said, adding that a probe is underway.
