A 60-year-old doctor was found dead under mysterious circumstances near his home in north-west Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar on Tuesday morning.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Vijayanta Arya said Vipin Bajaj was found dead in a pool of blood in a narrow lane adjacent to his house.
An FIR has been registered at Mukherjee Nagar police station, he said.
The police received a PCR call at 7 a.m. regarding the incident. On reaching the spot, the team found the doctor lying dead with injuries on the neck and chest.
On Tuesday, his wife who was sleeping in the adjacent room with their daughter, went to Bajaj’s room to ask him for tea.
‘Could not find him’
She allegedly told the police that she could not find him there. She then saw that the balcony gate was open and went there to look for him.
Not being able to find him, she looked down and saw Bajaj lying in a pool of blood in an adjacent lane. She then screamed for help after which the police were informed.
The family lived on the second floor, the police said.
Cause of death
“We are investigating the case. We have also procured CCTV footage of the area to get any clue. We will also speak to family members. It is not clear whether Bajaj jumped off the balcony or he was murdered,” said Ms. Arya.
Bajaj was a government doctor but left the practice around nine years back. He is survived by his wife and a daughter.
