Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing jewellery and cash worth more than ₹30 lakh from a house in north-west Delhi, the police said on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Rahul (19) and Ayub (23), residents of Kabir Nagar, Rana Partap Bagh, they said.

The police said that one Nitin Kumar lodged a complaint on Wednesday stating that jewellery worth around ₹30 lakh and ₹30,000 cash had been stolen from his house at Rana Partap Bagh.

During investigation, the police examined CCTV camera footage of nearby areas and it was also shown to local informers. Based on the image of the suspect seen in the footage, an informer suspected the involvement of one of the youths living in the same vicinity.

“We verified the whereabout of the suspect and later raided his house and recovered the stolen articles. The person was identified as Rahul. He lives in a nearby shanty,” said a police officer.

Rahul told the police that he had given some stolen jewellery to Ayub, following which the latter was arrested. Ayub disclosed that Rahul had given him the jewellery for disposal after the latter committed the burglary. Later at his instance, Rahul was arrested from Desu Colony, Rana Pratap Bagh. The police have recovered the entire stolen booty from the accused.
