A 17-year-old boy was stabbed five times by his schoolmate on August 24 for refusing to share his notebook with the accused in Dwarka’s Uttam Nagar, the police said on Monday. The minor accused was apprehended on August 25.

The victim, identified as Deept, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital and sustained injuries near his lungs and back.

Deept’s father Jai Kishan is a driver by profession. Recalling the incident, Mr. Kishan said that the family was coming back from the market when the accused, who goes to the same private school as Deept and stays close by, showed up.

“Our house is on the fourth floor. My wife and I had walked upstairs and my children were behind us. The boy stopped my son and asked him for his English notebook. My son asked him why he needed it,” Mr. Kishan said. Deept is a Science student, while the juvenile in conflict with law (JCL) studies Arts. “My son refused and was about to leave the spot. Irked, the accused started stabbing him with a sharp object,” the father said.

He allegedly stabbed him five times before fleeing the spot. When the victim started shouting for help, his younger sister came running. She then called their father who ran behind the JCL to catch him, but he was nowhere to be found. The victim was then rushed to a hospital where he is still undergoing treatment.

The police said that the JCL was apprehended in the early hours of August 25 from his house. Mr. Kishan along with his neighbours protested outside the house of the accused and demanded that he should be produced.

The police said that the JCL was rusticated from school two months ago. He also has another criminal case registered against him. “He had attacked a girl over a personal issue and she sustained injuries in the incident. She was also a schoolmate. The boy was rusticated after that,” said a police officer.

The victim’s father also claimed that many of his son’s friends had told him that the accused was a bully and that they had been threatened by him.
