Following good rain in the last few days in Siruvani catchment areas, the water level in the Siruvani Reservoir crossed the dead storage level.
The data available at the Coimbatore Corporation indicated that the water level as of Friday morning stood at 2.29 ft above the dead storage level.
On the same day last year the water level stood at 7.38 ft. Thereafter, there was a steady decline as both the South West and North East monsoons were a failure. In January this year, the water level was well below the dead storage level. As of January 1, 2017 the water level was 4.26 ft below the dead storage level.
In a related development, the Forest Department had opened Kovai Coutrallam to the public after it was remaining closed for two days because of heavy flow of water.
