The Hindu Young World Quiz proves a crowd-puller

A total of 512 students from schools across Coimbatore take part in the event

The 19th edition of The Hindu Young World Quiz powered by Eveready Industries Pvt. Ltd. with knowledge partner Arrow Publications proved a crowd-puller on February 8 at Perks Sports Academy.

The event with V.V. Ramanan as the quiz master witnessed 512 students from schools across Coimbatore taking part with enthusiasm. The students in the senior category said that they were nervous but excited while the students from the junior category were brimming with confidence.

Many students had already participated in The Hindu Young World Quiz and were ready to take on the questions.

The prelims kicked off with a written round with 25 questions.

Six teams were selected for the final buzzer round where they were able to answer almost all the questions fired by Mr. Ramanan. An audio visual question where one must identify the dance form was passed over to the audience.

Nail-biting finish

While the junior category finals saw a nail-biting finish, as Satchidananda Jothi Niketan School won over the Vidya Nikethan Public School team to take the championship in the final buzzer round, the senior cagetory finals saw a lot of twists with the leader board as each school moved from one position to another and finally, Suguna International emerged winners in the last two rounds.

The Quiz Master played with a numbered grid in the final round of the senior category.

The grid hid a picture, which a team had to identify. The quiz master had M.S. Dhoni in the hidden picture, which most of the finalists guessed it right, barring one.

The prize distribution was done by Chief Guest N. Venkatachalam, Chief Regional Manager, The New India Assurance Co. Ltd, and the Guest of Honour Sangeetha Sathish, Marketing Manager, Aavin.

The champions in the junior category were A.K. Guha Girish and A.B. Aathithiya Kumaran from Satchidananda Jothi Nikethan School.

The runner-ups were Arjun K. Ramdorai and Adhidev Saravanan from Vidya Niketan Public School and the second runner-ups were R.G Hayakriv and M.V. Rithish from Chavara Vidya Bhavan Matriculation Higher Secondary School.

The fourth prize went to Mrigraj Jalan and S. Anuradha from Chinmaya International Residential School, the fifth prize went to P.V. Rithik Raj and N. Sharves from Satchidananda Jothi Nikethan School and U.K. Sujan and Aayush Ganesh from Students from the PSBB Millennium School won the sixth prize.

A. Monish Kiran and T.V. Dinesh from Suguna International School were the champions in the senior category followed by Sri Vaibhav and K. Yohan of Chinmaya International Residential School.

The second runners-up were Mithun Senthilkumar and Aashish Babu from Satchidananda Jothi Nikethan School, B.S. Nikhil and V. Rishvanth from Chinmaya International Residential School got the fourth place. Chaitanya Sankar and Rishi Raghunath from Yuva Bharathi Public School were in fifth place and B.S. Raghunath and T.A. Vishal from G.K.D Matriculation Hr. Sec School were in sixth place.

The champions walked away with bicycles from Frog Bicycles.

The winners got a trophy, gift hampers from Eveready Ltd, Lenco Watches, Ayyappa Ghee, Unibic foods, Banaanaa Chips and Fun City Coupons. All the contestants were given participation certificates.
