The Hindu in School’s chess competition titled “Clash of Blacks and Whites”, powered by Thyrocare, drew an overwhelming response with more than 250 children battling it out across the 64 squares of the chess board at the Hindusthan College of Arts and Science here on Saturday.
The tournament was held as per the Swiss league format under the latest FIDE rules, and under the guidance of the Coimbatore District Chess Association.
The tournament was held in Boys and Girls categories with sub-categories in the age groups of Under-9, 11, 13 and 15 years. A. Mohammed Yousff was the Chief Arbiter and G.G. Sathish was the Deputy Chief Arbiter. K. Nalini - Deputy Environmental Engineer, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board was the chief guest and gave away prizes to the winners.
A. Ponnusamy, Principal of the college and V. Vijayaraghavan, secretary of the Coimbatore District Chess Association, inaugurated the event.
