Textile institute students demand facilities

October 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Students of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management have sought facilities such as textile laboratory and testing instruments at the institute.

They also said that industrial visits and scholarships should be provided to eligible students, the faculty strength should be increased, and hostel and food facilities should be improved. The students were on strike for the last two days.

Some of them told The Hindu on Thursday that there were 80 to 85 students at the institute from different States. The institute offered textile, retail, and apparel management courses. However, the first year students who joined for retail management course had been asked to go in for textile or apparel management. The institute had not complied with the assurances given to the students, they claimed.

Institute director C. Ramesh Kumar said that there were problems related to the mess at the college. The problem had been sorted out and classes resumed on Thursday.
