Residents of housing colonies in Kalapatty on Wednesday staged a protest to highlight the problem of sewage stagnating in the area.

According to sources, the residents of PSG Layout, Naren Garden, Ayyappa Nagar, Sriram Nagar, VLK Garden and a few other areas took to the streets complaining that the sewage stagnated because a land owner blocked the flow of sewage in a natural drain in the area.

They added that the Corporation had around six months ago removed the block created by the land owner but then a week ago, the land owner had allegedly blocked the flow of sewage and that led to the stagnation.

The Corporation officials along with the Revenue Department staff from the North Taluk rushed to the spot, pacified the agitating public and removed the block using machinery to ensure smooth flow of sewage. Following the action, the residents withdrew the protest.
