Relatives allege harassment for man’s suicide

October 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:21 am IST - COIMBATORE:

N. Sendurapandian (25), son of Nagappan, belonging to a tribal community from Kavarkal estate settlement area and working as an anti-poaching watcher, reportedly committed suicide by consuming malachite powder on Monday.

Alleging torture and harassment by his superior officers, the family refused to accept the body after post-mortem examination and this resulted in commotion on Monday morning.

According to the police, Sendurapandian returned home on Monday morning and collapsed.

He was rushed to the Valparai Government Hospital where he died.

Pointing out that he consumed malachite powder and ended his life while in uniform, the relatives sought action against the superior officers and also compensation for the bereaved family.

When contacted, Anamalai Tiger Reserve officials said that the worker was not turning up for duty and the superior officers had sent a word to the family members asking them to send Sendurapandian for work.

There was no harassment by higher officials and added that an inquiry would bring out the truth.
