Railways authorities are concerned over people continuing with the unauthorised crossing of the railway track near the Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital, after demolishing a portion of the wall the authorities had constructed to prevent the dangerous practice.

Ignoring the warning of railway authorities, people cross the track below Ananda Bridge in the heart of the city to reach the government hospital.

As this had led to fatal accidents, and the consequent disruption in train services, the Salem Railway Division recently constructed the wall, hoping that it would end the unauthorised crossing.

But, a portion of the wall was damaged within a few days of its construction, and the crossing resumed.

Social activists have urged the Railways to reconstruct the damaged portion of the wall and take stringent action against those crossing the track.
