The Karumathampatty police are waiting for the results of the forensic examination of viscera samples collected from the body of a man which was found partially charred at a burial ground near Kaniyur on October 26.

According to the police, who are yet to trace the identity of the deceased, the possibility of a murder can only be ruled out based on the results of the forensic examination. A senior police officer said that the body did not have any external injury which was confirmed in the inquest and subsequent post-mortem at the mortuary of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

“The forensic surgeons also could not find any internal injuries or signs of strangulation on the body.

The viscera samples were sent for examination to check the presence of poisonous substance.

The autopsy findings suggest that the body was burnt after the death of the man.

However, the cause of death and identity of the person are yet to be ascertained,” said the official.

The body of the man in 30s was found half burnt on a cremation platform of a burial ground at Thattampudur near Kaniyur.

As per the First Information Report registered by the police, it was a case of suspicious death. A source, who is in the know of the investigation, said that the platform did not have remains of any medium like firewood that are used for cremating dead bodies. The source added that it was burnt at some other place and later placed on the platform.
