Police probe suspicious death of security guard

The Coimbatore District Police have registered a case and are inquiring into the suspicious death of a 47-year-old man at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Tuesday.

Vadavalli Police said that M. Selvaraj (47) of Vedapatti was riding a moped on Coimbatore to Sundapalayam Road on Monday night when he felt a sting on his back.

He told his brother M. Jayachandran, suspecting that he was injected by someone. Selvaraj was admitted in a nearby private hospital and was referred to CMCH – where he died during treatment on Tuesday. The Police said that Selvaraj was on his way to work at a bank in Race Course where he was a security guard when the incident took place.

His death was registered under 174 (suspicious death) of Code of Criminal Procedure, based on a complaint from the victim’s brother. A post- mortem examination was performed on the body. The viscera were sent to the Forensics Laboratory in Chennai.
