Boulders which rolled down damaged a portion of Mettupalayam to Coonoor mountain railway track on Monday. This delayed the arrival of the train from Mettupalayam to Coonoor by about half an hour.

Railway sources said that the train, with close to 180 passengers, was near Adderly between Kallar and Hillgrove railway stations, about 13 km from Mettupalayam when damage to the track was detected.

Railway personnel were pressed into action to remove the boulders. They said that it took a little time to replace the damaged rack and pinion bars on the track, following which the train left for Coonoor.

Due to these works, the train scheduled to reach Coonoor station at 10.30 a.m. reached the town at 11 a.m. on Monday.
