A. Alagar Raja (35) of Theni was arrested by the Saravanampatty Crime Police on Wednesday on charges of allegedly cheating data entry job aspirants by promising them monthly salary, if they made a deposit in his firm. The police claimed that they had identified 45 persons who were cheated by him to the tune of Rs. 17 lakh, since 2013. Inspector N. Manivarman said that he asked aspirants to deposit Rs. 4,500 for getting a job and promised to pay Rs. 4,500 for the first month and Rs. 6,000 from then on. A few months ago, people who deposited money learnt that they were cheated and asked him to return the amount. “He gave them a bond promising to return their money on December 31, but he went into hiding,” he added. On Wednesday, Raja came to his house when he was caught by depositors and handed over to the police.
