Corporation Commissioner R. Sadheesh inspected the works under way to establish a commercial complex at Dr. M.G.R. Central Bus Terminal (New Bus Stand) here on Wednesday.

As many as 80 buses could be parked in the four bus bays at the bus stand located in Suramangalam Zone. There are 56 permanent shops and 16 temporary shops on the premises that fetch the civic body a revenue of ₹ 76 lakh per year. In order to enhance the revenue, the civic body had proposed to construct more shops in the first floor of the existing complex at a total cost of ₹ 5.90 crore. Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami had on December 13, 2018, laid the foundation for the works to be executed under the Smart Cities Mission.

Works began to construct four commercial establishments that would house bank branches, ATM centres, government organisations, jewellery shops, garments shops, restaurants, departmental stores and medical shops. Mr. Sadheesh inspected the works and asked officials to complete the works on time. He said that work was on to replace the damaged concrete floors with weathering course pressed tiles.

City Engineer A. Ashokan, Assistant Commissioner M. Sundararajan, Assistant Executive Engineers M. Muthu, M. Selvaraj, Assistant Engineers R. Balasubramaniyam and other officials were present.
