Copra price comes down

The price of copra has registered a downward trend at the Salem Regulated Market in Paramathivelur town on Thursday.

The price fall was due to the increase in the arrival of copra stock from the nearby villages.

The coconut farmers of the villages surrounding Paramathivelur used to convert the coconuts into copra and market the same through the weekly auction at the regulated market on Thursdays.

During the auction held last week, about 940 kg of copra was marketed through auction and it fetched a price between ₹ 113.95 and ₹ 132.

The farmers brought about 1,515 kg of copra for the weekly auction on Thursday. The crop fetched a price between ₹ 101.95 and ₹ 125.10. The entire crop was auctioned for ₹ 1.64 lakh, market committee sources said.
