Coimbatore witnesses mild showers

Coimbatore received mild showers in rural parts on Sunday, a day after Indian Meteorological Department withdrew red alert issued for the western region.

As per the rain gauge report from 12 stations, the district received an average rainfall of 9.21 mm on Sunday. Among the 12 stations, Mettupalayam received the highest rainfall of 26.50 mm, followed by 17 mm in TNAU, 16 mm in Periyanaickenpalayam, and 12 mm in Annur.

On Sunday, the water level at Aliyar reservoir stood at 113.35 feet against the full reservoir level of 120 feet. The inflow into the dam was 126 cusecs, while the outflow stood at 165 cusescs.

In Tirupur, around 300 residents of a low-lying area on Mangalam Road were shifted to a Government school after rain water entered their houses. Residents of around 40 houses at Iduvampalayam were moved to the school after the area received heavy rains on Saturday night. Household articles, groceries, dresses, and school books in many houses were damaged.

Officials from the Revenue Department, Fire and Rescue Services and the police visited Iduvampalayam at night and shifted the residents to the school as a precautionary measure. They returned to houses on Sunday.
