Coimbatore City Police express regret to woman for misbehaviour by SSI

SSI Karuppiah reportedly tried to misbehave with the 32-year-old woman motorist in an inebriated condition under the pretext checking her licence and vehicle’s documents

City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) T. Senthilkumar, on Friday, visited the house of the woman who was the victim of misbehaviour by a Traffic Police Special Sub-Inspector on Avanashi road on Wednesday and expressed regret for the incident.

The SSI Karuppiah of Race Course Police Station reportedly tried to misbehave with the 32-year-old woman motorist in an inebriated condition under the pretext checking her licence and vehicle’s documents.

Suspended

The constable was arrested and a drunkenness certificate was obtained. He has already been suspended.

The incident prompted discussion among the city’s top police officers on how best to restore the image of the city police in the eye of the public. It was then decided that top police officers pay a visit to the woman’s house and express regret.

Action taken

The woman, speaking to The Hindu said the officers explained to her, as well as other members of her family, on the action taken against the SSI. They also told her about the actions taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future.
