Members of the Coimbatore District Auto Workers’ Union protested in front of the South Taluk office on Tuesday demanding that the district administration fix “realistic” fare.

Local conditions

They said that though the State Government had ordered that the district administrations were free to fix the meter fare to suit local conditions, the Coimbatore district administration had not done so. The drivers’ unions had petitioned the State Government authorities right from the Chief Minister to the officials in Coimbatore about this but had not got any solution.

The drivers therefore decided to protest seeking a realistic revision in fare.
