The All India Youth Federation (AIYF) conference held here on Sunday has passed a resolution asking the authorities concerned to give a facelift to the shrinking infrastructure in Tirupur city.
AIYF district secretary R. Senthil Kumar said that the never-ending traffic chaos in the city had started threatening the export potential of the town.
Traffic snarls
“Due to traffic snarls, transportation of goods between various segments of the apparel manufacturing chain is getting delayed which, in turn, has been affecting the delivery schedule of the end products,” he pointed out. The AIYF men wanted the district administration to construct an elevated road corridor connecting Veerapandi with Anuparppalayam so that the traffic congestion in the city could be reduced considerably.
According to Mr. Senthil Kumar, the District Headquarters hospital lacks even some of the basic facilities and face shortage of nurses, specialist doctors and other staff.
Fill vacancies
“Steps should be taken on a war footing to post additional doctors and nurses in proportion to the number of patients utilising the hospital so as to improve the medical care,” he said. Similarly, departments of specialty and modern equipments to conduct procedures like angioplasty should be set up.
The conference came down heavily on the lackadaisical attitude shown by the Corporation officials concerned when it comes to augmenting the drinking water supply.
“At present, most of the areas are reeling under acute water shortage,” Mr. Senthil Kumar said. Some of the other demands were speedy distribution of house site pattas to all eligible persons at the earliest and need for improving basic amenities at all unapproved layouts in the city.
The AIYF men also took out a rally to highlight the demands.
