55 arrested for selling liquor on dry day

The Coimbatore City Police and the District Police have arrested 55 persons for selling liquor on Friday (dry day).

Of the 55 cases that were booked for illegal sale of liquor, 31 cases were registered by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing of the District Police.

The remaining 24 cases were booked by the respective police stations in the city.

A total of 509 liquor bottles were also seized from 53 persons.

At the Walayar check post, the police seized a motorcycle and a scooter for illegally transporting close to 10 litres of toddy.

The accused were booked under section 4(1) (a) for illegal possession of liquor.

All the accused were arrested and released the same day.
