To handle any contingencies arising out of Deepavali celebrations, the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Department has fully equipped all the ten fire and rescue service stations in the district, besides deploying 25 fire fighting vehicles at outposts.

Places for outposts have been chosen based on previous incidents of fire accidents due to use of fire crackers. There would be 250 personnel at the outposts and fire stations to handle fire calls.

To ensure fire accident-free Deepavali celebrations, the department had asked people to burst crackers only during the time stipulated by the High Court and the State Government (from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.). It also appealed to people not to burst crackers close to places of worship, hospitals, petrol pumps, LPG godowns and slums. It also called for purchase of crackers only from licensed shops and to follow the guidelines printed on the cracker box.

Crackers should be burst only in open places. People should put on their footwear and wear only cotton garments while bursting crackers. In the event of burns, pour cold water on the injury and then go in for medical assistance.
