Former Australia captain Steve Waugh’s life as a young kid with a dream to represent his country to ultimately fulfilling those ambitions formed the subject of a children’s book, which aims to encourage youngsters to develop interest in the game.

The book, titled ‘Tugga: The Steve Waugh Story’ and written by Morris Booth, tells the story of a young Waugh, his growth as a cricketer and elevation to the level of a Test player.

The 32—page illustrated book is aimed at children aged six to ten. The aim of the book is to encourage young children to read and develop an interest in cricket.

The book looks to encourage young people to have a goal in life, seeks to interest young children in a cricket superstar and promote the Sydney Cricket Ground for young children.

All the proceeds from the sale of the book will go towards the Sydney Cricket Ground Museum and Waugh said he was happy to do what he could for a ground that’s close to his heart.

“I look back to the first time I came here as an under—10 cricketer and looked out and I couldn’t believe how big the ground was, the white picket fence, the stands,” he said.

“It was just something I guess I hadn’t seen before.”
