After spending 15 years in the same school with tons of friends, I walked into my college four years ago, acutely aware of being alone for the first time in my life. Feeling completely lost in one of the hippest colleges, I finished my first semester with one friend and tons of resentment. And just when I thought that I had made a huge mistake, I met them — my gang.
Right from the day we got introduced to each other we knew there was something special. And once our lot got thrown together there was no looking back. A seamless transition from those awkward “hi”s and “hello”s to the running, jumping, hugs occurred in a matter of months. Everyone was accepted into everyone's home and life got so much more colourful. Every single day was a whirlwind of college, canteen, samosas, laughs and fun. And we, the glorious misfits, were the envy of many.
Goodbye time
Now, on the fringe of our graduation, reality starts to creep in. With most getting admission into foreign universities and the rest waiting for theirs, ever day brings us close to that day when a friend flies out for his higher studies.
No more impromptu movie plans, no more mid sea birthday parties, no more reassuring hugs, no more tight slaps to make you see sense... it feels strange and stark.
But one thing is for sure — we have bonded for life. For when ten people can cram themselves in a single Santro and travel the entire length and breadth of the city to surprise a friend on her birthday, distance can barely come between them.
