There are just too many reasons for that day to spell magic in the minds and the young to the old. Off all the hours in a year, it is that momentous '24' that keeps your heart and soul ticking. That smashing day is nothing but your own birthday!

The way a birthday is expected and celebrated changes over a period of time. It definitely diminishes with age, but that dormant spark is always present, no matter how hard life is.

A blast

For teenagers like me, celebrating a birthday in school or college, with friends and family seems to be the best thing that can ever happen! If your birthday falls on a public holiday, the fun factor is definitely less but, at the same time, you can plan something really special. On your birthday, there are only two rules. First, you RULE the day. You are uncommon and unique and the day belongs to YOU! Second, expect the unexpected!

The best part of birthdays are the surprises hid right in front of your face. You won't have a clue to what is going to be done. Late night wishes (the objective is simple: everyone calls at the same time to be the first person to wish. Hence, the lines are usually busy till 1.00 in the night provided you have a crazy bunch of friends!), surprise parties arranged without your knowledge, midnight arrivals on your doorstep, slipping gifts under your gate with an anonymous note to get you all worked up first thing in the morning, combined efforts of getting an out of the ordinary gift...the list goes on.

All these surprises depend on the way they are disguised! Some people keep lying until they succeed in making you believe that they have literally forgotten your birthday!

All that is really needed on a birthday, is a heartfelt wish! Even a card needn't be listed as a compulsion! A soft, loving hand-written note will do wonders!

Nevertheless, it's YOUR birthday! Your day! Live it! Love it! Cheers! Keep expecting!
