Entrepreneur and skater Rana Uppalapati is on a journey across the country to create awareness on girl child education and safety.
Along the way, he has had a zillion experiences – some endearing and others educating. He is going across the Golden Quadrilateral, skating around 6,000 kilometres and hopes to raise funds to educate 25, 000 girl children in the country.
“There is not enough being done,” says Rana and adds, “My experiences of meeting people across cities and villages have helped me to see the micro as well as the macro picture. And this journey is to help the society connect with the larger cause.” His mission is called ‘Educate to Carry Her Onwards’(Titan ECHO). Rana’s journey spanning 90 days was flagged off on September 5 from Hosur in Bengaluru under the CSR wing of Titan Company called Titan Kanya initiative, executed through NGOs Nanhi Kali and IIMPACT.
“Till now, we have raised about Rs 3.5 crore. Our target is to reach Rs 9 crore. There is a lot of energy to the cause now,” says Rana. Making pit stops in cities and villages, he talks to people about girl child education and gives presentations. “My journey is a means of bringing resources to the cause,” he explains. Rana has been documenting his journey through poems, prose and pictures on social media.
After completing 4,800 kilometres, the Visakhapatnam-based skater and business associate of Titan will be crossing the city on November 22. To hear his experiences on the road and be a part of an interactive session be present at VMRDA Children’s Arena.
