Ever thought about revisiting your car journeys over a month in a time-lapse video and the wave of memories that flash across, as a result? City photographer S V Teja did precisely that with his Go-pro camera placed next to his rear-view mirror in his i20. The final result was an impressive series of photographs set in motion to a wavy music score spanning over two minutes. The congratulatory messages from netizens only made the whole experience for Teja.

His first brush with photography came during his eighth grade, when he was gifted his first digital camera. Given that his uncle was into macro photography, his influence had got him to capture tiny creatures, insects back then. Teja’s passion for photography and videography only grew over time. His claim to fame are his videos on Hyderabad, Nainital and Papikondalu, the last was officially shared on AP Tourism’s FB page too.

“The cam captured a view of the car every 10 seconds I was in it. I had over 17,500 pictures by the end of the month,” recalls Teja, clearly not surprised by the count. One of his most precious memories in the video happens to be the ride with his grandmother. A major part of the video Driving for a month-Timelapse also has him sitting alone, he feels the emptiness adds a new dimension to it. That travelling is his passion goes well with his photographic interests.

His other video, In Hyderabad - History and Heritage Glimpses , shot on his IPhone SE, DJI Osmo, Panasonic GH4 was done under 12 hours. His unconventional glimpses of the Love Hyderabad installation on Tank Bund, the street art across Necklace Road, Charminar and Golkonda (including the trek) offers you an insider’s view of the city. “I would have loved to do a longer version of it, for all the heritage and culture we possess,” Teja states.

Unlike many of his counterparts, he uses Vimeo over Youtube to upload his videos, as the platform doesn’t compress the video. Currently a freelance photographer, Teja uses online resources to keep abreast of the latest photography trends.

Roots

Eadweard Muybridge, a 19th century photographer is believed to be the brain behind the time-lapse technique. Here, a sequence of recorded frames that happen slowly appear faster when it's set to video together.
