Farah Khan celebrated the 15th anniversary of her fine jewellery and luxury lifestyle brand with a new book, A Bejewelled Life — launched worldwide four days ago, on her daughter Fizaa’s birthday.
The photographs of handcrafted her 18-karat gold jewels and gouache renderings of her designs are interspersed with whimsical images of landscapes, animals and architecture, works of artists like Manjunath Kamath, and photographers like Ganesh Vanare — all of which inform and inspire her work.
“I’m often asked where I get my inspiration from, but there is only so much words can convey,” Farah says, adding, “This book is an open conversation, an interaction with intellectual dialogue that nourishes creativity.”
A designer to the stars, her creations have been worn by everyone from Kareena Kapoor and Sania Mirza to Serena Williams and Beyonce (seen here wearing a Swarovski crystal-studded Goddess crown, designed by Farah, for the artwork for her album, 4).
Farah picks three pieces from her pink collection that are special: “My jewels hark back to a romantic past but they voice the language of the now. I draw deeply from the rich repertoire and intoxicating history of Indian jewellery design and contemporise these with modern hues and textures. I’ve re-imagined the classic rose in the ‘La Grandiose’ necklace, but with petals carved from rubelites and aquamarines.”
“I love being in love, and sharing that euphoric feeling with the world through my designs. Using the myriad shades of a rose, from playful pinks to velvety creams and blushing reds, I write my love stories with gemstones like these rare pink morganites and precious metals like rose gold.”
“Juicy sorbet colours and flirty lilac-pinks, like this brilliantly-faceted kunzite gemstone, bring lightness and a sense of fun to statement pieces.”
