Y ou’re not alone in desiring a new look for your home this New Year.

With a majority of us increasing the amount of time we spend at home,

it makes sense to update rooms and spaces. Try these trending

suggestions and work your way to a dreamy home.

Desert chic

One of the hottest trends to hit homes across the world, desert chic is timely as it adds a warm vibe to any space. A nude room - think blush pink, ivory, or eggshell blue - provides the perfect backdrop for the prints and patinas of the desert. A tribal rug, weathered leather furniture, warm wooden tones and nature-inspired artwork help create a stylish room. Add the finishing touches with some greens - cactii, succulents, and a fiddle leaf fig.

Mixed metals

Time was when you either had gold or copper, never both. But that’s all set to change in the new year. Experiment with contrasting metals, be it when it comes to warm and cold or polished and matt. A hammered silver leaf bowel next to a shiny copper lamp? A warm rose gold pendant atop a dining table that showcases a stainless steel fruit bowl? Enjoy the experiments.

Geometric details

You may have hated geometry class, but there’s no way you can ignore circles, squares, triangles, and hexagons any more. Be it furniture, rugs, wall art, or lighting fixtures, geometric décor seems to be here to stay. The best part? It can be worked into every kind of décor style – modern, minimalist, vintage, industrial, rustic or glam.

Simplified spaces

T he pace of modern living has ensured that homes are finally what they were meant to be – a sanctuary. Homes and spaces will reflect that with people turning to makeunders instead of makeovers. Forget glitz and glam, and focus on a softer and more welcoming ambience. Look to Scandinavian-style homes, with their monochrome palettes, unfussy artwork and clean lines, for inspiration.

Shades of green

Move over grey, green’s here. With colour forecaster Pantone picking a shade of green as its choice colour for 2017, get set to welcome this natural hue into the home. Greenery, a yellow-green colour, was chosen because it represents rebirth and regeneration and is symbolic of “where we are in our lives and what we desire”. Be it dark, moss, olive, fern, sage, kale, agate, mint, sea, emerald, forest, shamrock or lime, there’s sure to be a green that’s just right for you.

Tiling patterns

Tiles don’t always have to be placed in a brick pattern, but our homes – and we – don’t seem to know that. With tiles emerging from the kitchen and bathroom to other parts of the home, it’s time to explore varied tiling patterns. The variety of shapes and colours available these days makes the idea more enticing. So go ahead with brick in one bathroom, but choose from other options elsewhere – herringbone, harlequin, Cumberland, chevron, Galveston, pinwheel, Charleston, Saint Simon and so on.
