There’s nothing like being able to relish fresh meat and fish which arrive at your doorstep within hours of marination. Licious, a gourmet meat brand, which also claims to be the first cold chain store of the country, aims to do just that — provide the best quality meat to customers — and differentiates itself from competitors by owning the entire back-end supply chain, right from tying up with meat integrators to sourcing the meat to training farmers to rearing the animals by adhering to global industry benchmarks for sourcing and procurement. Headquartered in Bengaluru, Licious recently expanded to Hyderabad and Gurugram. Started by Abhay Hanjura and Vivek Gupta, the brand is doing brisk business because their products are nothing like the ones found on supermarket shelves. Licious is about fresh food, fresh marination without any preservative. Their suggestion: the meat should not be stored for more than two days even when frozen.

With an exhaustive range of raw and marinated meats, cold cuts and exotic meats such as rabbit, duck, quail, and squid among others, Licious is a meat lover’s go-to online marketplace. They also offer a range of pickles and relishes to jazz up meal times. With a corporate chef to work on the marination and the combination of spices, the brand has some of the most unusual marinades. Chef Joe Manavalan, Assistant Vice-President, Innovation and Design, says the spice mix is a constant process. “To break the monotony of the taste and to provide variety, the marinades are changed often. The spices used are made in-house and bear no preservatives. That’s what makes the taste stand out from other commercial brands. The other positive side to this is that it can be made with very little oil,” says Manavalan.

True to what Manavalan says, the zesty garlic prawns, which is butter-glazed prawns drenched in a pulpy orange marinade along with ginger and garlic, needs only a few teaspoons of oil. The raw meats are fresh, succulent and high on flavour. And if you are plating these up for a party, presentation is taken care of too. For instance, the prawns come on skewers and only need to be pan-cooked and served as is. Manavalan was sure of one thing when coming up with the line of products — they should make for guilt-free eating. So if you are looking to go on a high-protein diet minus the fuss of dealing with elaborate recipes, this range is the perfect answer.

Some of their best products are Habanero chicken wings, Andhra chilli chicken wings, Peri peri chicken and Nagaland chicken pops.

Licious can be accessed via their website or their apps on App Store and Play Store.
