“Aradhana” is a film which celebrates the true essence of the Hindi film industry — breezy, crazy romcoms with insanely happy endings. It's the kind of cinema that a movie buff like me really appreciates.

Storyline

Coming to the plot, Vandana (Sharmila Tagore) meets Arun Varma (Rajesh Khanna) at a party. They promptly fall in love and secretly marry. Arun dies in a plane crash and Vandana's father dies soon after. So it is now Vandu dear's sole responsibility to bring up her baby.

A mistake, a murder, a misunderstanding and a jail sentence later, Vandana finds herself staring at her grown-up son, Suraj, who is a spitting image of Arun. Suraj and his hilarious fiancée (played wonderfully by Farida Jalal) have no idea that Vandana is Suraj's real mom.

Another plane crash and an award ceremony later, there is an emotional mother-son reunion that is sure to make you smile.

Good combination

With great music (‘Chanda Hai Tu', ‘Mera Suraj Hai Tu') and a great cast (Special credit to Khanna. Tagore was good, too. Oh, they were all amazing!) and brilliant slapstick comedy, “Aradhana” is a complete movie and a must-watch.
