Balak-Palak , a 2012 Marathi film on sex education, will soon be remade in Tamil and Telugu. And director Srikanth Velagaleti, who earlier made the Bollywood flick Utt Pataang , is set to helm the remakes.
“The story revolves around five kids, all of thirteen, who are inquisitive about sex. As it’s based in the year 1986, much before the advent of the Internet, they have to resort to video cassettes to learn. The subject has been hailed by many as a must-watch for parents,” says the filmmaker, who is currently scouting for the cast and crew.
The original shot to fame not just because of the subject, but also because cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took time off to watch it and ended up applauding it. While the original was produced by actor Riteish Deshmukh and Uttung Thakur, the Tamil and Telugu versions will be produced by Uttung Thakur and Suresh B of the Melbourne-based Kangaroo Motion Pictures.
“We plan to start shoot in August, once we freeze on a small-town location,” says 33-year-old Srikanth, who has assisted established directors in Bollywood, “The movie deals with a topic that touches the lives of everyone and we’re sure audiences in the south will connect with it as well.”
