How often have you thought of the prospect of walking into a place where the breads come straight from the oven and land on your plate? Or just the thought of seeing fresh loaves of bread come from the oven and get sliced just the way you want. Bread lovers cannot resist the waft of baking breads coming out of Old Madras Baking Company (OMBC) when in and around Gachibowli. The restaurant which is a couple of months old is your answer to ‘give us today our daily bread,’— artisan breads, please.

In the variety of breads they have baguettes, focaccia, brioche, ciabatta, croissants, besides, milk bread and whole wheat, etc. The focaccia is good enough to be eaten by itself and the brioche is no less soft and fluffy than a baby’s bum. Brioche bread is made with egg and so it is almost like eating a sponge cake minus the sweetness. The croissants are flaky, fluffy and filled of blueberry, chocolate and butter. It is an eatery with easy simple décor. If one observes keenly, it is their baked items that attract major attention.

Besides the variety of breads in neat stacks on the shelves, there are short eats as well. The donuts, the puff pastries and the tea cakes take all the attention when it is just coffee playing in the mind. It would be a sacrilege if an eatery called Old Madras Baking Company does not serve filter coffee. While it is listed on the menu, they might not serve it in the traditional ‘davara tumbler’, but they are spot on, in its flavour and aroma.

This restaurant might be big on breads, but it also has a concise menu that meets your requirements any time of the day.The food at this all day dining eatery might take a little long to reach your table, but that is because the team wants everything in perfect order. Portions are generous and can challenge your eating capacity. Right from a salad to a sandwich, they can all be shared, without anyone going hungry.

The salads win your heart with their generous addition of meat and egg depending on what one chooses to eat. For others who want more wholesome fare, there are pizzas available all the time. Keeping in mind the trend of food fusion, the OMBC has a few fusion sandwiches as well, for eg., ‘chicken makhani’ and ‘roasted mushroom makhani’ but the team ensures that it is nothing like eating curry in your sandwich.

For desserts, the banana-peanut donut might sound sinful, but every bite is worth it.
