Gaantham

What it is about…

Produced by Sanjay Ganesh for New Moon Studioz, Gaantham has Tej and new-find Rashmi in the lead.

Pandiarajan provides a liberal dose of comedy. Producer K. T. Kunjumon, who introduced directors Shankar and Prabhu Deva, Sushmita Sen and many other talents to the Tamil film industry, cast Tej in the lead in his film Kadhalukku Maranam Illai . Tej has also played the lead in Konjam Veyil Konjam Mazhai . It is significant that Tej apart from donning the lead role has written the story and screenplay for Gaantham. Another important role is enacted by Malaysian actor Poovesha. The camera is handled by Prem Shankar, while Prathab has scored the music. Vishwa has done the editing and K. Suresh has taken care of art direction. The actions scenes are choreographed by ‘Mirattal' Selvam. The audio of the film was recently released by Abirami Ramanathan and was received by music director Bharadwaj in the presence of producer P. L. Thenappan.

What they say…

Producer Sanjay Ganesh: When I met Tej, I was able to see a spark in him. I feel New Moon Studioz is here to stay and provide entertainment that every individual is looking for. I want to introduce some talented people to the industry and that's how I spotted music director Prathab. Gaantham will be released soon.

Director Sharavanan: I have worked as an associate director for over 10 films, including Kamaraj and Kadhalukku Maranam Illai . When Tej asked me to direct his friend's film Gaantham , I was delighted. It is an entertainer with love as the theme. We have used 5D camera (1000 frames per second speed) for a song, which has come out well. I have shot the film in Bangalore, Kodaikanal and Chennai.

Hero Tej: I completed engineering and MBA in Information Science and worked for a few companies before entering films. ‘ Gaantham ' means ‘magnet' which has the power to draw things towards it. Like a magnet, love too attracts people. And that's the reason for the title. If you handle problems with love, you can easily find a solution. The hero of this film tries to solve all the problems through love. It is a beautiful, youthful and romantic film.

Music Director Prathab: I was born in a family of musicians, so I was exposed to the keyboard and guitar in my growing up years. I started playing the keyboard at the age of 6 and started programming music at the age of 12. I have been part of various bands all through my school and college days and won accolades in all the events I participated all over India. I have worked as a keyboard programmer for various composers and have produced jingles for radio and television. Gaantham is my first full-fledged venture as a music director. We wanted the songs to sound fresh and different. We have worked on the lyrics so that they will appeal to the youth.

Music highlights: There are four songs in the album, each distinct. The best is ‘Un Azhagil' sung by Karthik and written by Justin. This melodious number is followed by ‘Thamizhanban', a good one written by Sarathy and sung by Aalaap Raju. ‘Nee Vandhal', sung by the music director himself and written by Seshadri, is pathos-filled. ‘Hulley', sung by Haricharan and Andrea, is a lovely duet for which the lyrics have been penned by Sarathy.
