The 87the Annual Conference and Concerts of The Music Academy will be inaugurated by Justice P. Sathasivam, Chief Justice of India, on December 15, 5 p.m., at the Academy premises, TTK Road.

Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha’s 113 December Music Festival (Isai Vizha) will be on from December 15 till January 5, 2014, at at Vidya Bharathi, 55 Bheemasena Garden Road, Mylapore. The festival will be inaugurated on December 15, 4 p.m. by Sri Paralaka Ramanuja Embar Jeer Swamigal of Sriperumbudur, who will confer the title ‘Sangeetha Kalasarathy’ on ‘Chitravina’ N. Ravikiran. This award caries a cash prize of Rs one Lakh (endowment created by P. Vijayakumar Reddy and Preetha Reddy) and a gold medal. Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna will light the kuthuvilakku while Dr. Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, Cleveland V.V. Sundaram and Mohan Parasaran will participate.

Sri Krishna Gana Sabha will open its 58th Art and Dance Festival this evening (Dec 13), 6 p.m., at its premises, T. Nagar. The fest will be inaugurated by Dr. R. Seetharaman, CEO, Doha Bank Group, Qatar, who will confer the Acharya Choodamani Award on Prof. A Janardhanan. Natyacharya V.P. Dhananjayan will confer the Nrithya Choodamani Award on Swapnasundari. A Bharatanatyam recital by Gauatri Sriram will follow.

Hamsadhwani’s 19th year NRI Music and Dance festival will be inaugurated on December 18, 6.15 p.m. at Youth Hostel, II Avenue, Indira Nagar, Adyar, by Jennifer A. McIntyre, Consul General, US Consulate and Mahesh Balasubramanian, Kotak Mahindra, followed by the music programme, ‘Thirai Isai Paatum Bharathumum - G. Ramanathan to A.R. Rahman hits’ and a dance tribute celebrating ‘celluloid-100 years,’ choreographed by Radhika Shurajit. The festival is on till December 31 and will feature artists from the U.S., Singapore, Dubai, Nigeria, Muscat, Australia and Canada. A jugalbandi concert (violin and santur) by Nandini Muthuswami and Nandkishor Muley will take place on December 22, 7 p.m. A special programme on December 25, 7 p.m., will feature the violin concert of Lalgudi Srimathi Brahmanandam with her daughter Anuradha Sridhar Special tribute to T. Balasaraswathi, by her grandson Anirudha Knight, will take place on December 29, 7 p.m.
