Residents of Arul Nagar in Madhavaram will not have to travel far for some lung space.
In a few months , a new park will be opened near the bus terminus that comes with a host of amenities such as a tiled footpath, concrete seating arrangements, illumination, separate toilets for men and women, water taps, generator for power back-up and round-the-clock security.
All these years, residents travelled to Perambur to spend some leisure time in the park.
The public park should serve at least a population of around 5,000 people in the neighbourhood, as per norms.
Apart from basic amenities, the park would have greenery including medicinal plants, landscaping, children play equipment and uninterrupted power supply.
The park is being built under the general funds of the Corporation and is spread over 12, 300 sq ft. “The park is being given the finishing touch and will be open soon,” said a Corporation official.
According to officials, the land where the park is coming up is an Open Space Reservation (OSR) . However, for many years, the space served as a den for anti-socials.
“The new park would be a boon for local residents because currently we have to travel a long distance to enjoy such a facility. Such a park in a neighbourhood consisting of residential and industrial units would act as a green lung,” said V.Saroja, a resident of Madhavaram.
