Commuters who frequent the Jayanthi Theatre traffic signal junction on Lattice Bridge Road, Thiruvanmiyur, have made several requests to the Chennai Traffic Police to create a right-turn option that would help motorists reach West Avenue Road and Rajiv Gandhi Salai.
“To reach West Avenue Road, we need to take a u-turn near Thiruvanmiyur bus depot. Another option is taking a u-turn near the junction of Third Main Road in Kamaraj Nagar in Thiruvanmiyur and Lattice Bridge Road. A few cross over the junction at their own risk,” S. Karthik, a motorist, said.
Similarly, motorists coming from West Avenue Road cannot take a right-turn to go to Lattice Bridge Road (towards IT corridor). They have to take a u-turn at the junction of Third Avenue in Indira Nagar at Adyar or go through Thiruvalluvar Salai. Previously, right-turn was allowed at the junction to reach Lattice Bridge Road and West Avenue Road, motorists said.
“Motorists are forced to take a detour in the absence of a right-turn at the junction. During rush hour, it is worse. It takes more than 10 to 15 minutes to cross the junction. Traffic snarls are common, from South Avenue Road to IMPCOPS Hospital,” J. Vijay, a resident of Kalakshetra Colony, said.
Besides, motorists requested for a u-turn at the Tidel Park junction. Those coming from West Avenue Road cannot take a u-turn at the junction to go to Lattice Bridge Road.
They have to take a u-turn at the junction of SRP Tools- or take a left-turn on the service lane of Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Towards Madhya Kailash) near the J-13 Taramani Police Station Booth and enter West Avenue Road through National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research traffic signal .
At the junction of SRP Tools-100 Feet Road , vehicles coming from Velachery, Taramani and Thoraipakkam, block the way of vehicles moving towards Thoraipakkam, Perungudi and Sholinganallur, and enter Lattice Bridge Road instead of crossing the Tidel Park Signal to go to West Avenue Road.
