There was expectation in the air, as was the nip due to the chill. When the lights dimmed and the posters started becoming visible to the eye, the applause was spontaneous.

Prasads production

That was the first look of ‘Rushi', a film that's a debut for the director, the heroine and the music directors. The glamour of the cast apart, what was considered important was that ‘Rushi' is a creation of Prasad Productions.

The production house was founded by the legendary L.V. Prasad, credited with having worked in the first talkie films ‘Alam Ara' (Hindi), ‘Bhakta Prahlada' (Telugu) and ‘Kalidasa' (Tamil). At a function here for the ‘First Look' of the film, former Union Minister and filmmaker Dasari Narayana Rao recalled that the last production of the company, by L.V. Prasad was ‘Ek Duje Ke Liye' starring Kamal Haasan and Rati Agnihotri in the year 1981. It was encouraging to see that a person with the credibility of the Prasads Group Chairman Ramesh Prasad was now producing a movie, he said.

‘Rushi' is directed by debutant Raj Madiraju, who has a decade's experience in making corporate films including those for Aurora Group of Educational Institutions, Apollo Hospitals and ICICI, is set around a medical college.

He has also worked with Dasari for seven films including ‘Osey Ramulamma'. Canned over a 35-day shooting schedule, the project took just three months, including the post-production and is slated for a February release. The music is scored by Snigdha and the rock duo Don-Chandra.

It has a newcomer from Mumbai, a Gladrags model Supriya Shailja cast opposite Arvind Krishna (his third film in Telugu), the son of C.V.S.K. Sharma, an IAS officer, apart from introducing Master Gaurav as a child artiste. Others in the cast include veterans Ranganath and Suresh, character actress Sandhya, who has done 47 Telugu films so far.
